Themed Specialist Interest Group Meetings
Learning Analytics in European Dental Education
A new SIG meeting for the first time in Berlin 2019 that will focus on the increasing importance and challenges arising from ‘big data’. Dental Schools need to collect student data to both track student progress and to ensure patient safety. They have a responsibility to regulatory bodies to ensure that students meet the required learning objectives, whether these be provided as guidance, such as those defined within the ADEE curricula, or as requirements of regulatory bodies. This need has resulted in a number of digital systems becoming available to do this more efficiently and effectively. The systems can not only collect data directly needed to ensure the progress and safety of individual students but produce, almost as an unintended consequence, vast amounts of complementary data.
Categorising learning outcomes for operative pre-clinical skills
A new SIG meeting for the first time in Berlin 2019 the SIG aims to specifically consider elements of an operative pre-clinical skills curriculum, and to categorise their importance and level of complexity. Delegate participation will be essential, both through dialogue and e-polling. Interested delegates will also be encouraged to communicate by email after the SIG whilst a paper is prepared for publication in EJDE.
Life Long Learning - The end of CPD as we know it? Welcome changes ahead?
A new SIG for 2019 drawing on the recent work carried out by an ADEE team on behalf of the General Dental Council that focused on continuing professional development in dental professions. The SIG will share its findings and commence a wider work programme around the future of CPD in dental education.
