ADEE General Assembly approved updated task force documents
At the ADEE General Assembly held in Vilnius University, Lithuania on Friday 25th August, the delegates unanimous acceptance the updated task-force documents. During 2015 to 2017 the very popular 'Profile and competence of the graduating European Dentist', was subjected to a comprehensive update by an international taskforce. Drawing on the expertise of members from the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Sweden, Germany and Ireland the core group evolved the existing document to reflect recent changes in European dental education.
The updated documents were then subject to a comprehensive consultation process, which drew 211 distinct comments/suggestions from a wide variety of sources.
In presenting the revised documents to the assembly for acceptance Dr James Field (University of Sheffield) highlighted the key changes in the revised documents as being:
Preference for a learning-outcome-centred approach
Increased emphasis on teaching excellence, student satisfaction, student preparedness & support
Changing emphases on curriculum components, such as patient safety, working as a team and patient-centred approaches
Suggested methods of teaching, learning and assessment
Updated methods of quality assurance for the delivery of education and training
Now that the document is accepted by the assembly it is being progressed to our publishers for publication as a special edition of the European Journal of Dental Education which we expect to have circulated in the coming months. You can read Dr Field's presentation here.
Professor Paganelli ADEE President thanked the task force for their efforts over the past 24 months on behalf of ADEE members and said he and the delegates look forward to seeing the publication and next stages of the project evolve.
