Consultation with ADEE members concerning update of the Professional Qualifications Directive
Dear ADEE member
As you already know, ADEE participates in the update of the Professional Qualifications Directive, whose Annex will be amended during 2015. At present, this Annex includes the qualifications of the graduate dentist in the form of a "list of subjects" (Anatomy, Biology, Oral surgery, etc), an outdated concept of dental education (and higher education, in general).
ADEE proposes that this "list of subjects" is replaced by a "list of competences", which reflects the current concept on education, and CED (Council of European Dentists) is also consulting in this endeavour.
We have drafted a very short version of the extended ADEE competences document along with an explanatory introduction and we are asking for your feedback on this, keeping in mind that this short list of 10 competences is intended for legislative purposes and for a europe-wide implementation, so it must be:
short and clear
not too detailed and not prescriptive
suitable to be implemented throughout the European Dental schools.
In addition, it must clearly reflect ADEE's position on dental education and the current educational environment.
We are asking for your feedback and comments on this list. The final short list of competences will be disseminated at a european level and it will be proposed to the policy makers in Brussels (Commission, Council, Parliament) as an alternative to the present "list of subjects".
