The Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA) is a collaborative venture involving the Faculties of Dentistry at the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam. ACTA conducts academic research, offers education to dental students as well as dental specialists and provides patient care in the field of dentistry. ACTA has an international reputation as a leading research institute and is one of the largest dentistry training institutions in the world: it is ranked fourth in the world in the QS 2018 World University Rankings.
The Faculty is continuously developing. ACTA has approximately 600 employees (both internal and guest staff) and 920 students completing the Dentistry programme. ACTA offers university-level dentistry programmes as well as post-academic courses for dentists, oral hygienists and dental assistants. From 2019 onwards, ACTA will also provide the compulsory further and continued education programmes for dentists. ACTA also hosts the Inholland University of Applied Sciences Oral Hygiene programme, adding another 500 students. Located on the Zuidas in Amsterdam, ACTA has over 33.000 registered patients and provides dental care to up to 600 patients per day.
ACTA now seeks to appoint a new Dean. With a proven successful track record as a senior leader, the successful appointee will have ultimate responsibility for ACTA’s education, research and patient care activities as well as for its operational management. S/he will be a well-regarded figure in the scientific community, with the ability to articulate a compelling vision for ACTA that will further strengthen beneficial partnership across the academic, public and private sectors. The new Dean is familiar with the field of oral care and the requirements posed on a health care institute by legislators, government, health insurers, and society. Reporting to the Executive Boards of the two partner Universities, s/he will have the experience to manage ACTA’s various interests in a complex managerial context, and the drive to support ACTA in its ambition of further strengthening its already world-leading education, research and care in dentistry. The Dean is supported by the Faculty’s Management Team.
