Bridging the gap between pre-clinical and clinical training: the student voice
Wednesday 22nd August 2018
Dr. James Field (University of Sheffield)
Dr. Carlos Serrano (ACTA)
European Dental Students’ Association (EDSA)
In partnership with:
Following a successful working session in Vilnius where we exchanged interesting international experiences in bridging the preclinical-clinical gap in dental education, this year’s goal is to further explore this transition with our students.
With the incorporation of EDSA within our working group, we aim to collect the student voice through a representative panel of students who help to mediate the discussion.
Our keynote speaker, Professor Dave Allerton (Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering, University of Sheffield) will show us how a similar gap has been solved in flying training. This renowned presenter will share his experiences with flight and medical surgery simulation.
Professor David John Allerton
After obtaining a PhD at the University of Cambridge in 1977, Professor Allerton worked for Marconi Space and Defence Systems Ltd before moving to a lectureship in the Department of Electronics at the University of Southampton in 1981. He was appointed as Professor of Avionics in the College of Aeronautics at Cranfield University in 1990 and moved to the University of Sheffield to the Chair of Systems Engineering in 2001, where he is currently an Emeritus Professor.
Professor Allerton has served on several national advisory committees for aerospace, is a past member of the Council of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a past Chairman of the Flight Simulation Committee. He has been a Director of Cranfield Aerospace and is currently a Director of Aerosoft Ltd. He is a Chartered Engineer, a past Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering Technology. His research interests include flight simulation, air traffic management, computer graphics and real-time computing.
