Graduating European Dentist (GED) Curriculum 'Domain Five - Research' now open for consultation

The GED taskforce is pleased to offer for open consultation a set of learning outcomes in the area of ‘Research’ for the undergraduate dental curriculum. These learning outcomes focus on the area of Research Design, Data Analysis and Interpretation, as well as Information Literacy that will facilitate the active encouragement of undergraduate dental students in relevant research practice. The proposed learning outcomes are now open for consultation and will remain so until 20th February 2024.

FEDCAR recommends ADEE’s “Graduating European Dentist”

At its recent meeting in Paris (24th Nov 2023), The Federation of European Dental Competent Authorities and Regulators endorsed to its European members, including candidate countries the national use of the “Graduating European Dentist” curriculum. In doing so FEDCAR welcomed the GED’s relevance to the European dental education context and highlighted the consensus and collaborative approach taken by ADEE in creating the GED and its predecessor the Profile and Competence of the Graduating European Dentist.

Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth, Faculté de médecine mentaire - Recognised as an ADEE LEADER Participating School

ADEE is delighted to formally announce that the Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth, Faculté de médecine dentaire, Beirut, Lebanon has successfully completed an initial school visit cycle under the ADEE LEADER programme and is now formally recognised as an ADEE LEADER participant.

ADEE and British Alliance of Research in Dental Education & Scholarship sign MOU

ADEE has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the British Alliance of Research in Dental Education & Scholarship (BARDES) to better enable collaboration between the two associations. The MOU puts in place a framework for joint activities between ADEE and BARDES where there is mutual interest and opportunities to advance oral health professional’s education.

REMINDER: ADEE 2024 Leuven: Call for Workshop, Special Interest Group and Community Of Practice Content sessions

As we finalise plans for ADEE 2024, we invite Chairs of COPs, Special Interest Groups and other interested persons to submit abstract proposals for consideration in our meeting programme. Each submission should outline for a 90-minute session the following:

  • Session Aim and 3 learning outcomes.
  • Proposed delivery approach, breakouts, lecture etc.
  • Speakers, Leader details (European Diversity is encouraged)
  • An outline programme for the 90-minute slot

Submissions should be via email only to administrator@adee.org to be received no later than 5th January 2024. Please note ADEE 2024 runs from Saturday 8th to Tuesday 10th September 2024. ADEE can not accommodate date specific presentation requests, and all sessions will be allocated in the interest of a balanced overall programme. It is also recommended that you look at the meeting theme and outline programme available online in advance of submission.

 

ADEE participated in EFP Perio Workshop 2023: shaping the future of education in periodontology

Four members of the ADEE executive, Pål Barkvoll, James Field, Barry Quinn and Sibylle Vital took part, as invited education experts, in the Perio Workshop 2023 organised by the EFP, which was held from 5 to 8 November in La Granja Spain. Bringing together 70 leading international perio experts from 22 countries, the aim of the gathering was to redefine a new consensus on undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education in periodontology. Perfectly orchestrated by Professor David Herrera, (Madrid, Spain), the meeting made it possible to propose a consensus on undergraduate Education in Periodontology, Postgraduate/Specialist Education in Periodontology, Continuing Professional Development, Vocational Education and Training & Structured Education below specialist level and on education methods. ADEE is very proud to have been associated with this major initiative and thanks the leaders of EFP for their confidence.

 

The 2023 Oral Health Professional Educators ‘Practice Green©’ Awards

Those of you who joined us in Liverpool this year will remember well the launch event of the ADEE EDSA Oral Health Professional Educators ‘Practice Green©’ Awards held in collaboration with Henry Schein. Presented for the first time in 2023 the aim was to recognise and encourage our members practices in the area of sustainability and sustainable practices. We presented four awards;  Faculty Campus Initiative - The University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, Faculty Curriculum Initiative - The University of Malmö Faculty of Dentistry, Sweden, Faculty Procurement and Product Use Initiative - The Dundee School of Dentistry, United Kingdom, A special recognition for international collaboration towards sustainability - Kings College London Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences, United Kingdom.
